A man who pleaded guilty to careless driving has been ordered to pay compensation to the complainant.

Gary Harrison, who admitted he fell asleep at the wheel, pleaded guilty to the traffic offence.

On March 7, 2023, while Harrison was operating a rental vehicle on All Saints Road, he ran into the back of the vehicle that was in front of him.

Officers who visited the scene of the accident discovered that both vehicles were travelling in an easterly direction. However, Harrison admitted to the police that upon reaching the vicinity of Eden Place he dozed off for a second and subsequently collided with the back of the vehicle – a Honda Fit – which had come to a stop.

Harrison has to pay $4,000 compensation to the complainant, whose son was driving the vehicle when the accident occurred.

He has 60 days to pay the fine or he will spend 30 days at His Majesty’s Prison.
