Prime Minister Gaston Browne has highlighted a surge in youth involvement within the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), claiming that the party’s grassroots mobilization efforts are strengthening its base while the opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) continues to lose relevance.

Speaking on his radio program, Browne pointed to the increasing participation of young people in ABLP branch meetings and internal elections, describing it as a sign of the party’s growing appeal among the next generation of leaders. “Every week, the attendance of young people is getting stronger and stronger. They are taking active responsibility for their political future,” he said.

In contrast, Browne dismissed the UPP as being in a state of decline, arguing that it has failed to attract fresh faces or inspire the electorate. He mocked the opposition for what he described as a reliance on “old and washed-up” candidates, suggesting that the party lacks the dynamism needed to be a viable alternative.

The Prime Minister also credited his administration’s policies and leadership style for energizing youth support, stating that his ability to connect with young people has made the ABLP the preferred choice for future political leaders. He positioned the Labour Party’s engagement efforts as key to ensuring its continued dominance in national politics.

As the political landscape evolves, Browne maintained that the ABLP remains committed to fostering new talent, while the UPP struggles to maintain its footing.
