The **government of Antigua and Barbuda** maintains that the **former Boys Training School** is ready for use, despite an **attempted break-in** at the facility earlier this week. Officials have clarified that while the school is operational, legal adjustments are required before the assigned boys can be placed there.

Speaking at the **Post-Cabinet Press Briefing** , **Chief of Staff Lionel Hurst** explained that the delay stems from court orders that need to be amended. “There are eight boys who are supposed to be at the facility. One is being held at Her Majesty’s Prison, while the other seven were assigned by the magistrate to various homes,” he said.

Hurst noted that before the transfer can take place, the **government must return to the magistrate** to secure a revised order. “To bring the boys to the school, we’ve got to go back to the magistrate to get an order that corrects or amends the first order,” he stated.

The facility was **reopened earlier this week** as part of efforts to provide structured rehabilitation for young offenders. However, reports of an **attempted unauthorized entry** emerged soon after. Authorities have confirmed that **no injuries were reported and nothing was stolen** during the incident.

Despite the delay, officials insist that the facility remains fully prepared. “It is open and functioning,” Hurst said.

The government has not indicated whether additional security measures will be implemented at the facility following the incident.
