Strengthening Food Safety in Early Childhood Care

Central Board of Health Antigua and Barbuda: On March 11 2025, prospective early childhood caregivers took part in a crucial Food Safety Training led by Julienne Mannix; Principal Public Health Inspector at the Central Board of Health.

When working in daycare centers or preschools where meals are prepared on-site, food safety is essential in preventing foodborne illnesses and ensuring the well-being of young children. This training provided participants with critical knowledge on:

✅ Keeping clean – Maintaining hygiene in food handling

✅ Separating raw and cooked foods – Preventing cross-contamination

✅ Maintaining safe food temperatures – Keep hot food hot and cold food cold

✅ Cooking thoroughly – Ensuring food is properly heated

✅ Using safe water and raw materials – Reducing contamination risks

Beyond food safety, the session also emphasized:

? Cleaning, disinfection & general sanitation – Keeping spaces germ-free
