Attorney General and Minister for Public Safety Sir Steadroy Cutie Benjamin has confirmed that a female suspect voluntarily led police officers to a secluded area in Weatherills Estate on Friday night, where she pointed them to the body of 9-year-old Chantel Crump, who had been missing since Wednesday evening.

According to Sir Steadroy, Crump was last seen leaving The Five Islands Primary School but never made it home, prompting her parents to report her disappearance. “By Thursday morning, the entire nation was gripped with concern, and efforts intensified to locate the young girl,” he said.

“Finally on Friday night, the female suspect on her own volition took the Police Officers to a secluded area at Weatherills Estate, and showed them where the young girl’s body could be found.”

With assistance from the community, police detained a man and his female partner. “The man was identified as the registered owner of a vehicle into which Chantel had entered freely,” the Attorney General stated. “Persistent police questioning led to the female suspect taking officers to the location of the child’s body.”

He further confirmed that following forensic procedures at the scene, the remains were transported to a funeral home.

Sir Steadroy extended his deepest condolences to the Crump family, their friends, and the community of Gray’s Green, acknowledging the profound grief caused by this tragic incident. He also commended the police and the public for their efforts in swiftly advancing the investigation.
