Antigua and Barbuda’s Foreign Minister, E.P. Chet Greene, has called for a structured approach to deepening ties between India and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

Speaking at a ministerial session on strengthening India-LAC partnerships, Greene stressed the need for high-level engagements and sector-specific committees in areas such as agriculture, technology, and pharmaceuticals.

India’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, echoed these sentiments, advocating for diversification beyond traditional trade. He highlighted opportunities in high-end manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure, while also stressing the need to remove non-tariff barriers.

Goyal also pointed to renewable energy as a key area for cooperation, noting that 40% of the world’s lithium reserves are in LAC countries. He expressed India’s interest in joint lithium processing and battery manufacturing to support electric mobility.
