Green City FC collected three crucial points in their bid to avoid automatic relegation from the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Premier Division with a comfortable 3-0 win over John Hughes in the second game of a triple-header at the FA’s Technical Center on Sunday.

Malik Tejornie Charles scored twice for Green City, netting in minutes 52 and 90+4 to seal the win after Elijah Whyte had given them the lead on minute seven.

The win lifts Green City to 20 points after 18 showings and ninth on the 14-team standings and safely out of the automatic four-team relegation zone. John Hughes remain on 21 points after 18 matches and eighth on the standings.

In Sunday’s feature clash, Potters Tigers edged Attacking Saints 2-1 to take their tally of points to 24 and safely into the seventh position on the standings. The results however mean that either Attacking Saints (16 pts) or Five Islands (17 pts) will play in the three-team playoff competition against English Harbour and Sea View Farm who finished third and fourth in the First Division. The winner of the playoff will earn a spot in the top flight. Both Attacking Saints and Five Islands have one match remaining.

Striker Keon Greene scored both goals for Potters with strikes in minutes 31 and 37 while Kenijah Challenger scored the lone goal for Attacking Saints in minute 51.

In the other match contested Sunday, Old Road blanked the already relegated Parham FC 7-2.

There were double strikes from Rodney Lawrence and Gisner Joseph for the victors with Lawrence hitting the back of the net in minutes 28 and 85 while Joseph scored in minutes 70 and 73.

Johnathan Shoy and Zaheim Greene had both scored in the opening minute to get the ball rolling for Old Road while Tenauri Simon netted in the 81st. For Parham, Nicquan Lyndon Philpps scored in the seventh minute while Tyrese Gowe scored in the 73rd.

Parham sit at the bottom of the standings with 10 points while Old Road end on 37 points and in the top five on the standings.
