Ojays remain unbeaten in D2 basketball while Flyers 2 soar over United – Antigua Observer Newspaper

Ovals Ojays remained unbeaten in Division 2 of the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) competition with a close 58-52 victory over Phoenix when they met in the first game of a double-header at the JSC basketball complex on Tuesday night.

The game was keenly contested with Ovals flying out of the blocks with a 17-9 first quarter triumph. Phoenix rebounded to take the second quarter 13-7 before Ovals claimed the third by a 22-14 margin. Although Phoenix had the upper hand by a 16-12 margin in the fourth and final quarter, it was not enough to propel them to victory.

Orion Seraphine led the scoring for Ovals with a game-high of 21 points while Tequan Brodie contributed with 16 points, three rebounds and six assists. Jayleyle Joseph picked up nine points, 14 rebounds and five assists.

In a losing effort for Phoenix, Daysher Samuel top-scored with 14 points while grabbing five rebounds and dishing four assists. Roshane Hewlett contributed with eight points and 14 rebounds.

In Tuesday’s feature clash, Flyers 2 enjoyed a dominant 87-45 victory over United. Flyers dominated the contest throughout, claiming all four quarters with scores of 23-9, 14-12, 31-12 and 19-12 respectfully.

Amare Browne was the chief architect for Flyers 2 with 24 points while Rashaun Harry sank 16 points and 19 rebounds. Naheem Joseph also picked up 16 points. For United, Dwayne Samuel led the scoring with 21 points while grabbing nine rebounds while Mahkail Gomes added 11 points.
