    Antigua State College Duo Wins Regional Moot Court, Earns UWI Law Scholarships

    Jessica Samuel and Oceanique Joseph of Antigua State College won the 5th annual Fortis Advocatus Moot Court competition, outperforming regional teams including Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Held at the High Court, the event showcased students’ advocacy skills before a panel of distinguished judges.

    Samuel was named Best Advocate in the final round and credited coach Aquila Southwell for her support. Judges Dane Hamilton Jr., Shannon Jones-Gittens, and Rilys Adams praised the competitors’ professionalism, with Adams highlighting Samuel’s clarity and Hamilton stressing adaptability in advocacy. Jones-Gittens noted the students’ advanced skill level.

    Samuel and Joseph, who argued a fictional murder appeal, were awarded full scholarships by the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Committee to study law at UWI. Opponents Emya Geness and Ciecie Lewis won Best Written Memorial, while TA Marryshow Community College was named Best Academic Institution. Promising Advocate awards went to Adia Daniel and Adhara Salfarlie.
