A potential disaster was narrowly avoided on Day 2 of the 56th Antigua Sailing Week when a boat carrying six young sailors from the National Sailing Academy began sinking due to steering failure and a sudden leak.

Rescuer Maurice Belgrave of Maurice Underwater Services sprang into action after receiving a Mayday call. He rescued the crew and ingeniously used a scuba suit to plug the breach before towing the vessel ashore. A collapsed mast added to the challenge, but all sailors made it back safely.

Belgrave was later honored by Race Manager Jamie Torres, who commended his courage and underscored the importance of skilled support crews during regattas.
