SOURCE STATE MEDIA: One man has been sentenced to 4 years and 5 months at His Majesty’s Prison, while another will serve 2 years and 3 months for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

The men had pleaded guilty in separate cases in the District B Magistrate’s Court.

Neil Guye has been sentenced to 4 years and 5 months in prison for illegal possession of a firearm and 95 rounds of ammunition.

Guye’s attorney has indicated he will appeal the sentence, insisting the court erred in its sentencing.

In a separate case, Ridge Turner has been sentenced to 2 years and 3 months for illegal possession of firearm and 3 months for possession of two rounds of ammunition.

Those sentences are to run concurrently.

Turner will serve an additional three months for failing to pay a fine for a breach of the mandatory curfew during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

He will therefore spend the next 2 years and 6 months in prison.

The sentences were handed down by Senior Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel on Wednesday.
