Highlighting crime, inadequate wages, and worsening public services, Jamale Pringle told Labour Day rally-goers that many citizens live in fear and deprivation, and that it’s time to demand better.

The Opposition Leader delivered a stark message at the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) rally, warning that economic hardship and insecurity were stripping people of their basic freedoms.

“When pensioners must choose between food and medicine, when families can’t afford land, when decent roads and running water are scarce, and when fear of crime keeps you locked in your home—then it’s time to rise up,” Pringle said.

He criticised the government for failing to address the needs of ordinary workers, accusing the administration of prioritising revenue collection over the welfare of citizens.

Pringle argued that under a United Progressive Party government, the country would see renewed investment in social services and worker protections, including support for nurses, teachers, and police officers who have staged multiple protests in recent years.

“This administration cares nothing about workers,” he said. “But the UPP stands ready to govern, to return power to the people and to make the poor and indigent a priority again.”

He ended his address with a call for unity and mobilisation, urging workers to support the ABWU and the UPP in their shared push for change.
