Rohan Hector is facing prison time after admitting to illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, following a suspicious vehicle stop on American Road last month.

He was remanded into custody on Wednesday after a representative expected to speak on his behalf failed to appear in court. Sentencing has been adjourned until tomorrow.

Police say they intercepted a vehicle reversing unusually near police headquarters on April 27. Hector, one of two men inside, claimed the car had transmission problems.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded 9mm firearm hidden in a black shopping bag.

Under local law, illegal firearm possession carries a mandatory jail sentence.
