A suspended police recruit has gone on trial for allegedly damaging a $70 sheetrock wall at the Sir Wright George Police Academy.

Sean Weathered, represented by Wendel Alexander and Wayne Benjamin Marsh, denies the charge.

He claims the wall was damaged accidentally when he leaned against it.

The defence argues Weathered has been unfairly targeted, highlighting disciplinary inconsistencies and alleging he was pressured to resign when seeking medical care during COVID-19 training.

The trial continues on 9 and 10 September.
