    Empowered to Care”: St. John Hospice to Host Continuing Education Workshop Series for Healthcare Professionals

    St. John Hospice is preparing to host its Continuing Education Workshop Series, a transformative three-day event designed to equip healthcare professionals with essential skills, practical knowledge, and renewed motivation in their service to patients. Running from May 21 to 23, 2025, the workshop will take place in the Day Room at St. John Hospice and will be held under the inspiring theme: “Empowered to Care: #aspecialwayofcaring.”

    This initiative is being led by Nurse Julien D. Kentish, Registered Nurse and Nurse Leader at St. John Hospice, who expressed deep appreciation for the healthcare workers participating and a strong belief in continuous growth.

    “This workshop series was created with your personal and professional advancement in mind,” said Nurse Kentish. “In today’s healthcare landscape, we must constantly evolve—learning from one another, refining our skills, and staying grounded in compassion.”

    Workshop Highlights: Practical Topics, Passionate Facilitators

    Over the course of three days, participants will benefit from morning and evening sessions facilitated by seasoned nurses and healthcare specialists. The topics are designed to strengthen the foundation of care and address real-world challenges faced by frontline workers:

    Day 2 – Thursday, May 22nd• 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Care of Diabetic Wounds – Focus on Ulcers to the FeetFacilitators: Ms. Annetta Stephens (Community Health Aide, Trained in Diabetic Foot Care)& Nurse Denis Connor, MBA, RN (Operating Theatre Specialist Nurse)• 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM: Medication Administration for Nursing AssistantsFacilitator: Nurse Taril Bowen, BSN, RN (Nurse Educator)

    Day 3 – Friday, May 23rd• 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Stress Management in the WorkplaceFacilitator: Nurse Michelle Lyons, RN, CM (Psychiatric Nurse)• 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM: Therapeutic Communication – A Patient-Centered ApproachFacilitator: Nurse Julien D. Kentish, BScN, RN, C.Dir.
