The Antigua and Barbuda Table Tennis Association (ABTTA) proudly announces the departure today of a four-member national contingent to the People’s Republic of China, where they will participate in the Training Program on Table Tennis Coaches and Athletes for Developing Countries, hosted in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, from August 12 to September 1, 2025.

The team – Tritia George, Mekhi Simmons, Joel Browne, and Barrington Loague – will join participants from across the developing world in an intensive program that blends high-level technical training, cultural exchange, and professional development.

The comprehensive three-week course, organized by the Free Trade Development Board of Zhejiang Province, includes expert-led sessions on advanced table tennis techniques, tactical strategy, physical conditioning, and sports injury prevention, as well as match simulations and friendly exchanges with Chinese provincial teams. Participants will also experience China’s rich cultural heritage, from visiting the China Table Tennis Museum to exploring historical landmarks such as West Lake and The Bund.

ABTTA President Charles ‘Chucky’ Bellot expressed deep gratitude to the People’s Republic of China for its continued commitment to sports development in Antigua and Barbuda:

“This program is a priceless opportunity for our athletes and coaches to train at an elite level, expand their knowledge, and build lasting international relationships. We thank the Government and people of China, especially through their local Embassy, for their generosity and vision in supporting our sporting growth.”

The contingent will not only gain valuable personal and professional skills but is also expected to share their knowledge upon return, mentoring younger players and contributing to the continued growth of table tennis in Antigua and Barbuda.

This initiative marks yet another milestone in the enduring friendship between Antigua and Barbuda and the People’s Republic of China, proving that sport remains a powerful bridge between nations.
