The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has begun two major projects to tackle water shortages and improve supply across the island.

At Barnacle Point, a 16-inch discharge line is being installed to support a new reverse osmosis plant capable of producing two million gallons of water per day. Officials say the plant will ease the chronic shortages that have hit households and businesses in recent years.

Work is also under way on a 14-inch transmission line along Herbert’s Main Road, from Brownie’s to the Lightfoot East junction. The upgrade is designed to strengthen the distribution system, improving flow and reducing service interruptions for nearby communities.

APUA says the initiatives form part of its wider strategy to expand and stabilise the national water network.
