Preparations are gathering pace for Antigua and Barbuda’s hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) next year.

Resident British Ambassador John Hamilton said planning was “moving from a distant concept to something that’s becoming a lot more real” as dates for the event are finalised.

The summit will bring His Majesty King Charles III, leaders from 56 Commonwealth nations and around 6,000 delegates, making it the largest international gathering ever hosted by the twin-island state.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne is leading preparations, supported by teams overseeing security, accommodation and logistics. Antigua and Barbuda’s High Commissioner in London, Karen-Mae Hill, is coordinating efforts with the Commonwealth Secretariat.

The event will feature forums for youth, women, business and civil society, as well as a leaders’ retreat and partners’ programme led by Minister Maria Bird-Browne.

Officials expect a major boost for local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, transport providers and tour operators.
