The estate of slain St Peter MP Asot Michael remains unresolved after the High Court rejected rival applications from his son and sisters to take temporary control of his assets.

Justice Nicola Byer dismissed requests from Nigel Michael, the late politician’s only son, and from his aunts Teresa-Anne and Soraya Michael, who each sought a special grant to manage the estate until a wider dispute over the will is settled.

Michael, who represented St Peter for two decades, was found dead at his Dry Hill home on 5 November 2024. Alexta Francis has been charged with his murder.

At issue is a will signed in March 2021. Nigel argues his father was too intoxicated to make sound decisions, while his aunts maintain the document is valid. The judge ruled neither side had shown urgent circumstances requiring intervention, noting both appeared more intent on blocking each other than protecting the estate.

Nigel will be allowed to continue challenging the will’s validity, but his attempt to add fresh claims was rejected. His aunts also succeeded in having parts of his filings struck out.

The dispute is expected to continue as the court examines Michael’s mental state, his struggles with alcoholism, and the legitimacy of the will.
