The family of 25-year-old Shenikica Baptiste is demanding answers and considering legal action after her sudden death at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
Baptiste, who was nine months pregnant, was admitted on 4 September with abdominal pain and scheduled for a Caesarean section. Relatives say the procedure was declared successful, but her condition deteriorated shortly afterwards. She was transferred to intensive care, where she later died.
Her sister, Karina Simon, said that Baptiste had been in good health adding that doctors mentioned pneumonia and carried out a Covid-19 test, which returned negative.
Family members said they were not kept properly informed and raised questions about the drugs administered during her stay. They maintain her death could have been prevented and are calling for accountability from the hospital.
