The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division reminds traders that before opening a shop, supermarket or selling certain basic goods, it is crucial to understand which items are subject to price control and to comply with the Distribution and Price of Goods Act (CAP 138).

Traders must fulfil their responsibilities as outlined in the Act and adhere to the Price Control Order. These regulations ensure correct percentage markups, helping keep basic goods affordable and accessible to the public. Non-compliance will lead to penalties. The Price Control Order may be obtained from the Government Printery.

Prospective traders should visit the Prices and Consumer Affairs Division to learn the essentials before starting their business. For more information, contact the division at 462-0834.
