A 19-year-old Guyanese woman who died in Antigua earlier this year is at the centre of a case that has now reached the courts.

Victor Ince, a resident of Lightfoot, appeared in court on Wednesday charged in connection with the death of Joylene Abraham, who lost her life on 7 May.

Police say Abraham died after jumping from a vehicle Ince was driving along the road between New Winthorpes and Jabawak. She sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following several months of investigation, Ince was formally charged over her death and remanded in custody.

The court heard that Abraham had only recently arrived in Antigua before the fatal incident.

Ince, who is represented by attorney Wendell Alexander, is due to return to court on 8 December.

The case has drawn significant attention, both for the circumstances of Abraham’s death and for the legal proceedings now under way.
