Prime Minister Gaston Browne has revealed how a local car dealership managed to operate a “duty-free factory” without the knowledge or approval of the Cabinet. The revelation came during a recent press conference where Browne addressed concerns about unauthorized operations within the country.
Browne explained that the dealership had been importing vehicles and parts under the guise of a duty-free factory, bypassing standard customs procedures and avoiding taxes. This operation, which had been ongoing for some time, was uncovered during a routine investigation by customs officials.
The Prime Minister expressed his disappointment that such an operation could go unnoticed for so long, emphasizing the need for stricter oversight and accountability within government agencies. He assured the public that measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The dealership in question has not been named, but Browne indicated that legal action is being considered against those involved in the unauthorized operation. The government is also reviewing its policies on duty-free operations to ensure that all businesses comply with the law.
