LETTER: “NO MILITARY ASSETS,” Antigua & Barbuda

Thank you P.M. Gaston for kicking out the bid by the U.S. to involve our islands in it’s war against Venezuela, and, dividing the people of the Southern Caribbean. Your straightforward notice Sir, mirrors the wishes of the people, that we will not entertain any military assets in our country, and, we are happy not to have any bases in Antigua & Barbuda. That reverberated down to Grenada and kicked of a people’s protest which is making waves.

Caricom too has been forced to wake up and issue a joint release (minus 1) reminding the US we are a Zone of Peace. Everything is indicating the need for a closer union of these strategic island states of the Caribbean, but for that to be accomplished small steps must be taken, where the people’s wishes must be known and felt by the leadership. Haiti is a great example of that non-interference clause hidden somewhere in the Caricom agreement which is more revered than the Bible!

Let us trust that courage is sustained, because we can refuse to be involved in any overt military activity, but we heard the U.S. state they would begin covert operations in Venezuela. After the base left Antigua with all overt activity, covert operations continued uninterrupted, it will most likely continue unseen and occasionally felt, especially now. Antigua & the Caribbean must stay aware and alert!
