The long-promised rehabilitation of the All Saints Road is moving closer to full implementation, with testing and preliminary work now underway, according to Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant.

Merchant confirmed that the matter was discussed during this week’s Cabinet meeting, and that a company—, a collaboration between a Canadian engineering firm and a local partner—has already begun testing work.

“They have actually commenced some work,” Merchant said during Thursday’s post-Cabinet briefing. “They are doing testing, and in some areas of All Saints Road, you would have noticed a team working on surveys and cutting out patches for testing.”

The upcoming road reconstruction will also include the removal of old APUA pipelines and installation of new ones, ensuring that underground infrastructure is modernized alongside the road surface.

The project will span from the VC Bird bust in St. John’s to English Harbour, covering roughly 11 to 12 miles. Merchant said mobilization is expected soon and that the team is planning traffic diversions to minimize disruption during the works.

“Very shortly, you will see mobilization and a transformation of the All Saints Road,” he said, noting that Cabinet will provide further updates next week as additional details are finalized.
