The government has donated $10,000 to The Victory Center after the special-needs school was burglarized this week, disrupting its operations and leaving staff scrambling to replace stolen items.

Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said Cabinet approved the contribution to help the school “get back on its feet” after the break-in, which targeted equipment used to support children with developmental and learning challenges. Merchant described the incident as particularly troubling given the vulnerable population the center serves.

He said Cabinet is calling on members of the private sector to join the effort by making their own contributions to help the school recover fully. “Cabinet also made a plea for members of the business sector to make contributions to these worthy causes,” Merchant said during the post-Cabinet briefing.

Merchant stressed that community support is essential for institutions that provide critical services to individuals with special needs, and encouraged businesses to assist with replacing equipment and strengthening the center’s ability to operate without interruption.

The donation forms part of a wider government appeal to support organizations that assist some of the society’s most vulnerable, especially in moments of unexpected hardship.
