LETTER: Shugy Shame on You, Targeting a Soup Kitchen Instead of Serving Our Constituency

It must be placed on record that for more than two years, the Member of Parliament for St. Mary’s South, Shugy , has failed to demonstrate any visible or tangible use of his constituency allowance for the benefit of the people of this constituency. The residents of St. Mary’s South have seen no sustained programs, no community initiatives, and no direct support arising from those funds.

Yet, instead of accounting for his own lack of action, he chose to enter Parliament and misrepresent the work of Dwayne George, specifically attempting to discredit the St. Mary’s South Soup Kitchen by suggesting that vouchers belonging to others were used to purchase food for that initiative.

Let the truth be made clear:
    That claim is false.

The soup kitchen has survived and grown because of personal sacrifice. On many occasions, Dwayne George paid out of his own pocket to ensure that food was available. And when resources were stretched, he did what real representatives do, he asked, he sought help, and he ensured that people were fed. At no time were vouchers misused or taken from anyone for the operation of the soup kitchen.

What is troubling is that instead of supporting an initiative that feeds the elderly, the vulnerable, and those in need, there appears to be an effort to attack and undermine it. The people of St. Mary’s South deserve better than politics that targets compassion and service.

Despite the criticism, the soup kitchen continues to grow, continues to reach those in need, and continues to gain the support and respect of the community. Its impact speaks for itself.

You cannot argue with hungry people being fed.
    You cannot argue with service.
    And you cannot silence truth.

    St. Mary’s South sees.
    St. Mary’s South knows.
And St. Mary’s South will remember.
