Education Minister Daryll Matthew has vowed that anyone who harms or exploits children will be barred permanently from Antigua and Barbuda’s school system, as officials investigate a school principal accused of misconduct involving several female students.

Addressing Parliament, Matthew said the principal has been placed on administrative leave while “documented allegations” are reviewed. “The matter is under active investigation,” he said. “But I swear to the Almighty God, he cannot put his foot back in another classroom as long as I am here.”

The principal, whose name is being withheld for legal reasons, was first suspended months ago after multiple complaints. A detailed internal probe has since been completed, and senior officials say further action is expected.

Parents have raised fears the educator could be reinstated, but Matthew said child protection is non-negotiable and that no one facing such allegations will return to the classroom.

The principal is reportedly preparing legal action challenging the government’s handling of the case. Matthew said the ministry’s priority remains safeguarding children and maintaining public trust in the education system.
