The Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Fisheries & the Blue Economy will host an Agricultural Career Fair and Expo on Thursday, Feb. 26 , aimed at introducing secondary school students to career opportunities in modern agriculture.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gilbert Agricultural & Rural Development Center, and will bring together farmers, technicians and industry professionals to showcase pathways in crop production, agri-technology, renewable energy and farm management.

Among the featured exhibitors is Itajah Simmons , owner of Simmons Farm, who has more than a decade of experience producing sweet, seasoning and bell peppers, along with red, orange and yellow watermelons. Simmons operates a five-acre farm in Big Creek and integrates drone technology into production.

He holds a master’s degree in renewable energy and biogas and also works as a mechanical engineer at Public Works, highlighting the growing links between agriculture, engineering and technology.

Organizers say the expo is designed to expose students to sustainable farming practices, innovation in agri-tech and educational and employment opportunities across the sector, as the country continues efforts to strengthen food security and modernize agriculture.

The ministry is encouraging students and educators to attend, describing the fair as an opportunity to connect with professionals shaping the future of agriculture in Antigua and Barbuda.
