A coroner’s inquest on Friday heard stark evidence surrounding the death of Chinlee Robinson, 23, who died at His Majesty’s Prison on Jan. 24, hours after bail was granted.

Medical findings list anoxia, neck trauma and cardiac failure.

A 15-year-old detainee testified that Robinson returned from court visibly upset over a bail issue and that, later that night, he heard a brief scream followed by silence. The teen also said inmates were locked in cells by mid-afternoon and that overnight checks were rare.

The death remains disputed. Family lawyer Wendel Alexander is calling for a homicide investigation, while police have previously pointed to possible natural causes. Prison Superintendent Trevor Pennyfeather has said the death may have involved strangulation.

    The inquest continues Friday.
