ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — A 34-year-old man from Herberts is appealing to the public for assistance after a severe autoimmune illness left him unable to walk and struggling to meet basic daily needs.

Danny Thomas is living with advanced psoriatic arthritis, a progressive condition that causes joint inflammation, stiffness and chronic pain. What began several years ago as psoriasis has since worsened, affecting multiple joints and leaving him largely confined to his home, according to information shared during a recent interview.

Thomas said the disease has stiffened his joints to the point where he can no longer walk. He also explained that managing the condition requires a strict diet, as certain foods trigger flare-ups that worsen both skin rashes and joint pain. Without steady income, the cost of maintaining that diet has become increasingly difficult.

Doctors have identified a medication that could significantly reduce inflammation and potentially restore some mobility, but Thomas does not have consistent access to the treatment, according to the report.

Despite the challenges, Thomas said he remains in good spirits and is grateful for what he has. He is now seeking assistance to help cover medical expenses, dietary needs and access to treatment.

Members of the public who wish to assist have been encouraged to contact the Antigua and Barbuda Persons Living with Disabilities to help support Thomas as he continues to manage the condition.
