Prosecutors have signaled they may abandon the case against a Bendals man charged in a fatal motorcycle crash that killed a 23-year-old woman in 2022, leaving the matter unresolved nearly two and a half years later.

The Director of Public Prosecutions told the High Court on Thursday that the case against Jameel Adams could be discontinued. Adams is charged with causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the November 14 crash that claimed the life of Annik Lawrence. No formal application to withdraw the charge has been filed, and the court was not told why the prosecution intends to stop the case.

Lawrence was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle driven by Adams along All Saints Road when the vehicle reportedly went out of control, causing both riders to be thrown from the bike. Police have said Adams was also injured in the incident.

Lawrence died days before her 24th birthday. The case now remains before the court with no clear timeline for a final decision.
