Antigua Slipway Ltd. has unveiled plans for a US$2.5 million redevelopment and upgrade of its marine railway facility, a project expected to expand the capacity of the country’s yachting and marine services sector.

The company presented details of the Marine Railway Re-Development and Upgrade Project to Governor General Sir Rodney Williams during a meeting on Thursday.

Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in June 2026 and will involve replacing the existing aging underwater railway structure with a modern steel system built to international engineering standards.

According to Antigua Slipway Ltd., the upgraded facility will allow the company to operate the largest single-vessel yacht haul-out facility in the Caribbean. The new system will also enable the yard to service tugboats and commercial work vessels operating at St. John’s Port, reducing the need for operators to send vessels overseas for haul-outs.

The project is expected to create between 50 and 60 jobs during the construction phase and further strengthen English Harbour’s reputation as one of the Caribbean’s premier yachting destinations.

Antigua Slipway said it expects to break ground on the project in June 2026.
