The government is in negotiations with a Canadian contractor to undertake major road upgrades, including long-awaited improvements to the Burning Flames Highway, Prime Minister Gaston Browne said during his weekly appearance on Pointe FM.

Browne said discussions with the contractor are ongoing but nearing completion, paving the way for work to begin on key sections of the island’s road network.

“We’re still negotiating with a Canadian contractor,” Browne said, noting that the government had recently received feedback from the company and expects talks to conclude shortly.

If negotiations are finalized as expected, the project could begin early next month with work on All Saints Road, one of the island’s busiest corridors linking several communities.

Browne said the government also intends to address conditions along the Burning Flames Highway, a major route used by motorists travelling through Potter’s Village and surrounding areas.

“It will be done for sure,” the prime minister said.

Concerns about deteriorating road conditions along the highway have been raised by residents and motorists, who say the route requires urgent repairs.

The government has been carrying out road rehabilitation projects across the country in recent months as part of a broader infrastructure improvement programme.
