The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) commenced training sessions on Monday for election workers in preparation for the by-election in St. Philip North, which will take place on Monday, March 16, 2026.

The training sessions, which are taking place at the Glanvilles Community Centre, are being facilitated by Returning Officer Ms. Avonella Benjamin.

The training is designed to equip election day workers with the knowledge and procedures required to efficiently manage polling operations on election day. Participants include presiding officers, poll clerks, customer service representatives and other polling staff, who will play key roles in ensuring that the electoral process is conducted smoothly and in accordance with established electoral laws and procedures.

Supervisor of Elections Mr. Ian S. Hughes underscored the importance of comprehensive preparation for all election personnel.

“Training is a critical component of the electoral process. By ensuring that every election worker understands their responsibilities and the procedures they must follow, we strengthen the integrity, transparency, and efficiency of the voting process. The Commission is committed to ensuring that the St. Philip North By-Election is administered to the highest standard.” The sessions will cover a range of topics including polling station procedures, voter identification protocols, ballot handling, counting procedures, and the proper completion of official election documentation. Emphasis is also being placed on maintaining transparency, accuracy, and professionalism throughout the electoral process.
