Residents in eastern Antigua are set to benefit from improved access to prescription medications with the opening today of a Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) pharmacy at the Glanvilles Polyclinic.

Health and Wellness Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph said the new pharmacy will allow patients in the area to collect medications closer to home, reducing the need to travel to other dispensaries.

The facility is part of the Ministry of Health’s wider plan to decentralize medical services and strengthen access to care in rural and eastern communities.

Officials say the addition of a pharmacy will make the polyclinic more convenient for patients, particularly those managing chronic illnesses who require regular medication.

The ministry also indicated that emergency services in the area will soon be strengthened, with an ambulance expected to be stationed at the Glanvilles Polyclinic by the end of March to improve response times in surrounding communities.
