The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) will host two significant events next week aimed at strengthening community resilience and national preparedness.

On Sunday, the first ever Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Exhibition, to be held at the St. Johnston’s Village Sports Complex, will showcase the vital skills and readiness of our local responders. This event is sponsored by the National Disaster Facility (NDF) under the 11th European Development Fund with support from the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).

District disaster coordinators and their dedicated teams of volunteers from across the island will participate in live demonstrations, highlighting the essential role of community-based disaster management. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and learn more about how they can prepare for emergencies. It will also be an opportunity for persons to register to be part of the National Disaster Management Volunteer Program.

Following the exhibition, NODS will conduct the annual Caribe Wave Tsunami Exercise on Thursday, March 19. This island-wide exercise is part of a regional initiative to test and improve tsunami warning systems and evacuation procedures.

The exercise serves as a critical opportunity for government agencies, private sector partners, and the public to practice their response protocols and ensure that communication channels are effective in the event of a real tsunami threat.

These events represent NODS’ ongoing commitment to ensuring that every citizen is equipped with the knowledge and resources to stay safe. -End-
