LETTER: Is this quality of corn acceptable?

    Dear Editor,

I am writing to bring attention to a concerning issue that I recently experienced, which I believe warrants public awareness and urgent investigation.

Perry Bay Supermarket advertised corn for sale at $11 yesterday. However, upon visiting the supermarket, I was met with nothing short of disappointment. The corn being sold was already peeled, pale in colour, and appeared to have fungus, raising serious concerns about its freshness and suitability for consumption.

It is deeply troubling that produce in such condition is being offered to consumers, particularly at discounted prices. This not only reflects poorly on food quality standards but also poses potential health risks.

One must question whether such practices contribute to the rise of chronic illnesses within our small island.Where are the health authorities in situations like this? Who is ensuring that proper food safety and quality standards are being upheld? It raises an important question: is profit being placed before public health?

it seems unfair that certain communities are being subjected to substandard goods, while sister establishments may offer more upscale products at other locations.

Consumers should not feel as though they are undeserving of quality based on where they shop. I strongly urge the relevant authorities to investigate the practices at Perry Bay Supermarket and to enforce strict quality control measures. The public deserves safe, fresh, and high-quality food.

This is not the fist time this is happening. But I choose not to stay quiet. LM
