    Opinion – BY Kelly-Jean James

Nothing Changes if Nothing ChangesI’ve always observed election season in Antigua, even prior to returning here roughly two years ago

As a child, there was the claim that people voted for color and not representation. Personally, I’ve heard my grandmother and mother speak of their choices as to why they support who they support. However, as an adult with a fully developed prefrontal cortex… that is THEIR reason, not mine.

We millennials, the “new adults”—fine, we are no longer color blind, but I find that we are apathetic? …complacent? Nah… disempowered by CHOICE.

It’s disheartening to see us say we don’t know who our representatives are, we dont know what’s happening in our constituencies, we don’t know what laws are changing, what opportunities are available, etc., etc., etc.

But yall know everything that Trump and ‘Merica ah do?

How many of us actually visit branch offices, attend town halls, watch the news, listen to the Prime Minister on Saturday, read cabinet notes, register to vote?!

We have power, and we refuse to use it… but then COMPLAIN when change is not happening?

Our future and that of our children, are on the same level as fetes ?! That all we can muster is to post about our dissatisfaction and see how many people like, share, and comment?! Weird flex!

Self-responsibility matters….no? MPs are elected!! We hold much more power than we seem to recognize… but alas… we call it “silly season,” but how silly are we when we refuse to be the change we want to see.
