Work on the dredging project at Crabbe’s Peninsula has been delayed due to issues with the shipment of key equipment, officials said, pushing back timelines for completion.

Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said the delay is linked to difficulties in the arrival of a barge needed to advance the project.

“The expected arrival of a new barge has been delayed somewhat… due to transit shipment difficulties,” Merchant said during Thursday’s post-Cabinet briefing.

Despite the setback, he said work is continuing using existing equipment.

“The local company… has been working on a daily basis with the dredging that it is able to do with its current equipment,” Merchant said.

Officials said the project remains a priority, with expectations that progress will accelerate once the additional equipment arrives.

“It’s anticipated within a few months or sooner that they will be able to complete the project,” Merchant said.

The dredging effort is part of broader infrastructure development plans at Crabbe’s Peninsula, aimed at enhancing maritime and industrial capacity, though delays in equipment logistics have slowed full-scale operations.
