LETTER: UPP’s “ChatGPT Manifesto” Would Mean Higher Taxes, Lost Jobs, a Mountain of Debt & Economic Uncertainty

The UPP manifesto launch was not only underwhelming, when you look under the hood it is downright scary!

It includes fairy tale ideas like their entertainment and sports complex that would cost billions to build and maintain. And, it includes promised increases in pay that are irresponsible which would also cost billions.

Someone has to pay for the UPP promises and there are a few ways they can pay. First, with tax increases. They could raise ABST, reintroduce the personal income tax, raise fees on vehicles, and imports to pay for their promises.

Or, they could pay for their promises with cuts. They could fire public servants. They could cut pensions. They could cut unemployment benefits. They could cut road construction. They could cut affordable housing construction. That is another option for the UPP.

Finally, they could pay for their promises with debt. And, debt means that for every tax dollar we pay, we have less and less money over time to fund public services and invest in our country.

The UPP’s “ChatGPT Manifesto” is not only a joke, but, it’s dangerous and shows that the UPP is not a serious political party or a serious choice for government
