Senator Joel Rayne is to take on an expanded government role after being appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Corporate Governance and Public Private Partnerships.

Rayne is expected to take the oaths of allegiance, office and secrecy during a swearing-in ceremony at Government House on Thursday, just one week after he and nine other government senators were sworn into the Upper House.

The ceremony will also see Tiffany Anthea Lauren Strann-Peters sworn in as the final government senator, completing the administration’s full slate of Senate appointments.

Under Antigua and Barbuda’s Constitution, the Senate comprises 17 members. Eleven are appointed on the advice of the Prime Minister, four on the advice of the Leader of the Opposition, one on the advice of the Barbuda Council, and one independently by the Governor General.
