Antigua and Barbuda’s Maliek Francis delivered a record-breaking performance to win the men’s javelin title at the OECS Track and Field Championships in St Kitts and Nevis, throwing 66.11 metres to claim the gold medal.

The winning effort established a new national record, surpassing the previous mark of 65.70 metres set by Oraine Brown at the NACAC Under-23 Championships in Mexico on July 6, 2012.

Francis’ throw also set a new stadium record at the Kim Collins Athletics Stadium, eclipsing the previous best of 60.40 metres recorded by Abijah Nemdhari on June 21, 2026.

The performance secured Francis the OECS championship title while rewriting both the Antigua and Barbuda national record and the venue record with a single throw.

His achievement adds another gold medal to Antigua and Barbuda’s tally at the championships and marks one of the country’s most significant field event performances in recent years.
