Residents moving into the redeveloped Booby Alley community will be briefed on rules covering cleanliness, safety and neighbourhood responsibilities before occupying their new homes.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne confirmed the planned orientation Saturday during the Browne and Browne Show on Pointe FM.

The proposal was raised in a message from a member of the public, who suggested that every returning resident should undergo a “neighbour-to-neighbour orientation” before moving into the development.

Browne said the government had already agreed to the proposal.

The orientation is expected to inform residents about the rules governing the new community and encourage them to protect the development.

Residents would also be urged to watch out for one another, keep their surroundings clean and safe and demonstrate civic pride.

The initiative is intended to help preserve the new homes and shared spaces within the Booby Alley development while fostering stronger relationships among neighbours.

The Booby Alley redevelopment replaced the former residential area with modern housing as part of the Antigua and Barbuda government’s urban renewal programme.

Some former residents were temporarily relocated to homes in Villa while construction was underway.

Browne has said those who prefer the single-family homes in Villa will not be forced to return to Booby Alley. People who were renting could be offered mortgages, while some former property owners may be able to exchange their previous holdings for the Villa homes.

The prime minister did not say when the community orientation sessions would begin or identify the agency responsible for conducting them.
