Grenada’s Minister for Tourism, the Creative Economy and Culture, Sen. Adrian Thomas, has praised Antigua and Barbuda for delivering what he described as a world-class cultural production during the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026.

Thomas, in a congratulatory message to the government and people of Antigua and Barbuda, said the performance by young Antiguans and Barbudans at the National Arts and Performance Cultural Centre was an extraordinary display of Caribbean creativity, artistic excellence and national pride.

“What we witnessed today was nothing short of a world-class production, brilliantly conceptualised, professionally executed and artistically outstanding,” Thomas said.

He described the presentation as a spectacular celebration of Caribbean cultural identity, staged at a standard comparable to some of the finest cultural productions internationally.

The Grenadian minister commended the planning and coordination behind the event, highlighting the choreography, musical arrangements, costumes, lighting and stage management.

He said the seamless transitions and attention to detail demonstrated the professionalism and dedication of everyone involved in bringing the production to life.

Thomas reserved particular praise for the young performers, including musicians, dancers, singers and actors, whose performances he said reflected extraordinary talent, confidence and discipline.

“Their performances were not merely entertaining; they told a powerful story of a people deeply connected to their history, proud of their heritage and confident in their cultural identity,” he said.

The minister also singled out the musical conductor for special recognition, praising the leadership, precision and artistic expression demonstrated throughout the production.

He said the conductor’s ability to bring the various musical elements together with harmony and energy contributed significantly to the overall success of the presentation.

Thomas also acknowledged the contributions of producers, artistic directors, choreographers, costume designers, technical crews, stage managers and others who worked behind the scenes.

He said their collective efforts showed what could be achieved through teamwork, preparation and a commitment to professional excellence.

The Grenadian minister also praised Antigua and Barbuda’s new state-of-the-art cultural performance centre, describing it as an impressive venue and a symbol of the country’s investment in cultural development and the creative industries.

According to Thomas, the facility demonstrated the importance of providing the infrastructure needed to nurture artistic talent and support major cultural productions.

Speaking from his perspective as Grenada’s culture minister, Thomas said he was particularly proud to witness the performance because of what it represented for the wider Caribbean.

“Antigua and Barbuda has reminded the Commonwealth and the wider international community that the Caribbean is not merely a destination of beautiful beaches and warm hospitality; we are a civilisation of extraordinary creativity, rich cultural traditions and world-class artistic talent,” he said.

Thomas said the production had raised the standard for major cultural events across the region and should serve as an inspiration to cultural practitioners, event producers and creative professionals throughout the Caribbean.

He pointed to the importance of investment, visionary leadership and professional execution in allowing Caribbean talent to compete at the highest international levels.

The minister concluded his message with a tribute to Antigua and Barbuda for showcasing the region’s cultural capabilities before Commonwealth leaders and an international audience.

“Antigua and Barbuda, you have made the Caribbean proud! You did not simply stage a cultural performance; you delivered a masterpiece of Caribbean excellence before the eyes of the Commonwealth and the world,” Thomas declared.

He congratulated the country on what he called a magnificent, memorable and world-class production.
