DAILY OBSERVER: A bus driver in his early 50s is currently on trial in the High Court on charges of rape and serious indecency.

The trial, which began on Monday, continued yesterday with law enforcement officials giving testimony before a nine-person jury.

The case centres on allegations from February 2023 involving a 21-year-old woman who, due to a developmental disability, has the cognitive functioning level of a teenager.

Prosecutors allege that after initially connecting with the victim through social media and engaging in a consensual relationship, the defendant transported her to an abandoned building on February 15, 2023, where he allegedly had sexual intercourse with her and forced her to perform oral sex on him against her will.

The trial will continue today with the jury of five men and four women scheduled to visit the location where the alleged assault took place.

Defence attorney Lawrence Daniels is representing the accused, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Justice Ann Marie Smith is presiding over the proceedings.
