On September 27th, I reached the milestone of seventy years — a moment that invites reflection, gratitude, and hope. Looking back over the decades, from my early days in school to teaching, practicing law, and serving in public office, I see a life shaped by lessons learned and shared. As Antigua & Barbuda continues to chart its future, I hope the lessons I have gathered along the way can inspire others to live fully, serve faithfully, and lead with purpose.
1. Education Opens Doors
My journey began in classrooms where curiosity and discipline were my first teachers. Later, as an educator myself, I witnessed how knowledge transforms lives. I have learned that learning is not merely a step toward personal success, but the foundation upon which opportunity, empowerment, and progress are built.
2. Service Before Self
Whether in teaching or in public office, I discovered early that true leadership is measured by what we give, not what we gain. Serving others has been both a responsibility and a privilege — a reminder that a life devoted to lifting others is one truly well-lived.
3. Integrity is Non-Negotiable
Life and leadership present difficult choices. Time and again, I have found that staying true to principles, even when inconvenient, is the only way to earn lasting trust. Integrity, above all, is the currency of leadership.
4. Resilience Defines Us
Setbacks and challenges are inevitable. Politics, like life, is filled with unexpected turns. Yet, resilience — the capacity to rise, adapt, and move forward — has been a constant lesson. Every obstacle presents an opportunity to grow stronger, wiser, and more compassionate.

I have always believed that empowering the next generation is not optional; it is essential. Investing in education, mentorship, and opportunities for young people is the surest path to a nation’s continued growth and prosperity. The future belongs to those we prepare today.

Over the years, I have traveled, collaborated, and learned from communities far beyond our shores. Yet, my heart has always remained in Antigua & Barbuda. To live fully, we must embrace the world — but never forget the values, traditions, and people who shape our identity.

At the end of the day, a life is measured not by titles or accolades, but by the lives touched, the barriers broken, and the hope inspired. My greatest satisfaction comes from seeing others succeed, from communities strengthened, and from ideas translated into positive action.
Seventy years have taught me that leadership, service, and love for one’s community are intertwined. As I celebrate this milestone, I am filled with gratitude for family, colleagues, friends, and all those whose trust and encouragement have carried me this far.
