A 54-year-old man described in court as a barber and identified in official reports as a pastor has been remanded in custody on multiple drug-related charges.

Dean Robert Gould appeared before the court on Monday, where prosecutors opposed bail. The court ruled that Gould posed a flight risk after finding he had not established sufficient ties to Antigua and Barbuda.

The court heard that Gould holds a United States passport and was unable to provide proof of his reported Cedar Grove address. He is scheduled to return to court on 29 June with documentation confirming his residence.

Gould faces charges including drug trafficking, importation of cannabis, possession of cannabis, possession with intent to transfer, and being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

The charges arise from an incident at VC Bird International Airport on 13 June, when officers searched two duffle bags after a police K9 unit reportedly detected drugs.

Police said the search uncovered 60 packages of suspected cannabis concealed beneath clothing and footwear. The substance weighed about 59.5 pounds and is estimated to have a street value of EC$357,000.
