Captain Jahzara Claxton displayed an excellent showing of swing bowling to destroy the Windward Islands’ top order, helping her team to register their second victory in three outings at the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Female Under 19 Tournament in Trinidad and Tobago.

Windward Islands won the toss and elected to field, and kept the Leeward Islands extremely quiet as Katherine Rosario played an interesting innings scoring eight from 37 balls.

The Leeward Islanders were 29 for one at the halfway stage before Rosario retired hurt with the score at 36.

It then brought their best players together in that of Kimberley Anthony (18) and Jahzara Claxton (21) who provided some power hitting to get the innings going.

They eventually got to 84 for three at the end of their allotted 19 overs due to a late start.

The ladies of the Windward Islands were given a target of 85 to chase and the right arm fast bowler, Claxton, got the ball to swing prodigiously in the air bamboozling her opposite number, Zaida James, for a duck in her first over before removing Jaeda Tyrell for leg before wicket a few balls later.

She then made light work of Cian Felix who offered no shot to a brilliant outswinger to claim her third wicket also via the leg before route.

All-rounder Saivani Kambalapalli (2-12) proved to be a handful to deal with offering her tidy leg spin along with left arm slow bowler Gabrielle Harrylall (2-20).

Then Rosario demonstrated how much of a gun fielder she was in the deep, claiming two run-outs before the skipper returned to wrap up the innings with figures of four for seven runs.

Windwards were bowled out for 51 runs after a dominant display by the Leeward Islands. They will play Guyana on Tuesday who have played unbeaten thus far in the tournament after three games.
