Antigua and Barbuda Ratifies Caricom arrest warrant treaty

**GIS ANTIGUA:** The House of Representatives passed a Resolution authorizing the accession by Antigua and Barbuda to the **CARICOM** Arrest Warrant Treaty.

The **CARICOM** Arrest Warrant Treaty was adopted in July 2017 at a meeting of Heads of Government of **CARICOM** Member States in St Georges, Grenada and came into force on July 10, 2018.

The objective of the Treaty is the establishment of a system, within the Caribbean Community, of arrest and surrender of requested persons for the purpose of criminal prosecution for an offence and the execution of a custodial sentence or greater punishment where the requested person has fled from justice after a conviction or sentence.

The Resolution was piloted by **Hon. E.P Chet Greene** and debated by **Attorney General Hon. Sir Steadroy Benjamin, Leader of the Opposition Hon. Jamale Pringle, Hon. Trevor Walker and Hon. Richard Lewis.**
